At East Neuk Dental Practice, we’re proud to offer NHS dental care to help our community maintain healthy, confident smiles. NHS dentistry covers a wide range of essential treatments to support your oral health, from routine check-ups and fillings to more complex care where clinically necessary.

NHS dental treatment in Scotland is subsidised, but not all treatments are free. Most adults pay 80% of the treatment cost, up to a maximum of £384 per course of treatment. Some patients qualify for free treatment (see below).

Free NHS Dental Care

You may qualify if you:

Are under 26 years old
Are pregnant or have had a baby in the last 12 months
Receive certain benefits (e.g. Universal Credit, Income Support, ESA)
Have a valid HC2 certificate

Typical NHS Treatment Charges

Examination – FREE for everyone
‍Includes a full oral health assessment and treatment planning.
Scale and Polish
‍From around £11 to £20 depending on complexity.
Fillings
‍From £7 to £40 depending on the type and number of fillings.
Extractions
‍Typically £7 to £25 depending on the tooth and complexity.
Root Canal Treatment
‍Approx. £40 to £90 depending on the tooth being treated.
Crowns
‍From £90 to £120 (metal or porcelain-fused crowns, as clinically necessary).
Dentures (Full or Partial)
‍Typically £80 to £170 depending on materials and design.
Bridges
‍From £120, depending on clinical need and structure.
Emergency Treatment
‍Usually £7 to £20 for immediate pain relief, dressings, or temporary fixes.

Notes

Cosmetic treatments such as tooth whitening or cosmetic veneers are not available on the NHS.
Your dentist will always explain the recommended NHS treatment and give you a written estimate before starting.
You will not be charged more than £384 for a single course of NHS treatment.
